Theideaofrunningalwaysintimidatedme.Assomeonewhoneverconsideredmyselfathletic,thethoughtofpoundingthepavementandgaspingforbreathseemedliketorture.However,afteryearsofstrugglingwithweightissuesandlowself-esteem,IknewIneededtomakeachange.That'swhenIdecidedtostartrunning.

TheBeginning

Myfirstrunwasadisaster.IbarelymadeitablockbeforeIwasoutofbreathandmylegswereburning.Ifeltdefeatedandhopeless.However,somethinginsideofmeurgedmetokeepgoing.So,Imadeaplantoruneveryotherday,startingwithshortdistancesandgraduallyincreasingovertime.

Itwasn'teasy,buteachrunIcompletedmademefeelmoreaccomplished.Eventually,IbegantocravethefeelingofpushingmyselfandseeingtheprogressIwasmaking.Istartedtoenjoythefreshairandthesolitudethatcamewitheveryrun.

TheBenefits

AsIcontinuedtoincorporaterunningintomyroutine,Inoticedasignificantchangeinmyphysicalhealth.Ilostweightandmymuscletoneimproved.Butmorethanthat,Inoticedadifferenceinmymentalhealth.RunninggavemeasenseofclarityandpeacethatIhadneverexperiencedbefore.

Runningallowedmetoclearmymindandfocusonmygoals.Ifoundmyselfsettingmoreambitiousgoalsformypersonalandprofessionallife,andwasmoremotivatedtoachievethem.IalsonoticedthatIwaslessstressedandanxious.

TheFuture

Fastforwardtotoday,andrunningisstillavitalpartofmydailyroutine.Ihavecompletedmultiple5Ksandevenahalfmarathon.Butevenmorethanthat,runninghasgivenmeconfidence,strength,andresilience.

RunninghastaughtmethatIamcapableofmorethanIeverthoughtpossible.Ithasshownmethatwithpersistence,dedication,andawillingnesstopushmyself,IcanachieveanythingIsetmymindto.

Sotoanyonewhoisconsideringstartingarunningroutine,Iencourageyoutotakethatfirststep.Itwon'tbeeasy,buttherewardsaretrulylife-changing.
